Clients volunteer at local organizations engaging in a variety of tasks including; gardening, mailings, maintenance and janitorial work, food preparation and distribution, four wheeler trips, zoo, museums, sled dog rides, or possibly a night out for dinner at our 24 foot projection theater, if that is not enough there are many, many more.
Big Lake Country Club has paired with the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) to bring Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) services to Mat-Su valley consumers in need of mental health treatment or learning assistance.
EAP and EAL incorporates horses experientially for emotional growth and learning.
It is a collaborative effort between a qualified Mental Health Professional and an Equine Specialist working with clients and horses to address treatment goals.
Big Lake Country Club's Job coaching program consists of training a client by an approved specialist, who uses structured techniques to aid the client conducting a selected task and learn the interpersonal skills necessary to be accepted as a worker at the job site and in related community contacts.
Through job coaching, a qualified individual (job coach) works directly with our clients in a training or placement site to help them learn the specific requirements of a job/task; learn work-related activities and requirements such as time and attendance rules; and learn appropriate work-related (including social) behaviors when dealing with supervisors and co-workers.
The joy of sitting astride and controlling a horse is an empowering experience for an individual with physical, mental and/or emotional disabilities.
Our mission is to provide recreational therapeutic horseback riding for people with these challenges.
Horseback riding gives individuals with disabilities a chance to strengthen muscles, increase joint mobility, improve balance, posture, and coordination in a way that makes learning fun and interesting.
Acquiring these skills fosters the development of confidence and self reliance while riders learn the basics of caring for a horse.
