The story from our founder, Steve Kuker: My grandma Minnie was caring for my grandpa Carl at their home, they were ages 87 and 88.
Grandpa had dementia and needed basic oversight and supervision throughout the day.
Grandma looked after him and did a great job keeping him safe and well cared for.
Unfortunately, one night, grandma had a fall and fractured her neck.
She was rushed to the hospital and survived the accident, but now she needed a lot of assistance as well.
It was clear that they required 24-hour care and would not be able to return home.

One of the biggest challenges with choosing an Assisted Living community is that this is NOT a standardized level of care.
Some offer minimal assistance and some offer a high level of assistance.
Pricing models include a flat all inclusive fee, most have a base charge with an additional "level of care" charge, and some have a base plus A la carte charges.

A Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC is a community that has all levels of care including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Long Term Care (nursing home) and Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
Many also have Memory Care, but some do not.
A CCRC is by far the most complex community to choose because of the many variables involved.
For example, at the Independent Living level, many have an Entrance Deposit plus monthly maintenance fees.
There are several types of Entrance Deposit contracts; some offer 90% returned to your estate, some draw down to a $0 return over time.
